In Fiscal 2025, Kane County’s total budgeted revenue was $433.16 Million. Much of the revenue budgeted in 2025 came from property taxes and sales tax.
However, in most years, the majority of the County’s revenue is allocated in an “Other” revenue type category. One important fund in this Other Revenue category is Kane County’s reserve fund. In 2025, the Reserve Fund was the largest source of revenue, containing $35 Million in American Rescue Plan (ARP) money. The ARP money was fully allocated by Fiscal 2025 so will not be available to balance future budgets in 2026 and beyond..
Of the $433.16 million in total budgeted revenue in 2025, about one-third, or $140.46 Million, is budgeted in the General Fund, which is spent on Kane County’s day-to-day operations.
The remaining $292.69 Million is budgeted in Other Funds, which are special use funds allocated to specific, designated purposes. The chart below shows how Kane County’s total revenue, General Fund revenue, COVID-19 related special revenue, and all other revenue funds have been budgeted annually since 2020
Kane County Government Revenue Since 2020

Total revenue rose in 2021, and has since dropped below 2020 levels. The increase in revenue was primarily due to large amounts of federal government funding associated with the 2020 CARES Act and the 2021 American Rescue Plan Act. Property tax and sales tax rates have remained flat in that time.
County General Fund Revenue
Although the County’s total revenue has dropped since 2020, Kane County’s revenue budgeted in the General Fund, to cover day to day operations, has been increasing each year.
